Training Name: Active Citizens Youth Leadership Training (ACYLT)

The Active Citizens Youth Leadership Training (ACYLT) is a globally recognized initiative by the British Council aimed at empowering young leaders to drive sustainable social change. The program nurtures participants' leadership skills, builds a global network of changemakers, and inspires them to develop impactful Social Action Projects (SAPs) addressing pressing local issues.

During this four-day rigorous training, I had the privilege to participate and present our Social Action Project (SAP), titled Ecofriendly Supermarket. This project reflects our collective commitment to sustainability and community betterment.

What is the Active Citizens Program?

The Active Citizens Program is a global initiative designed to:

  1. Foster Leadership for Social Change

    • The program empowers youth to develop the skills and confidence needed to create meaningful change within their communities.
    • It builds capacity to address challenges aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

  2. Encourage Global Networking

    • Participants connect with like-minded changemakers worldwide, sharing experiences, insights, and strategies to create a lasting impact.

  3. Promote Local Engagement

    • Emphasis is placed on addressing local issues, ensuring sustainable development begins at the grassroots level.

Achievements in Bangladesh:

  • Over 2,400 Social Action Projects (SAPs) initiated across the country.
  • SAP themes range from eradicating illiteracy to combatting violence against women.

Ecofriendly Supermarket: A Social Action Project

Project Name: Ecofriendly Supermarket

The Social Action Project developed during ACYLT addressed critical environmental challenges, focusing on reducing plastic pollution and promoting sustainable consumption.

Project Objectives:

  1. Promote Sustainable Shopping Practices:

    • Advocate for the use of eco-friendly products.
    • Reduce dependency on single-use plastics.

  2. Empower Local Artisans:

    • Provide a platform for artisans to sell eco-friendly, handmade products.

  3. Educate the Community:

    • Raise awareness about the environmental impact of consumer habits.
    • Encourage a shift towards sustainable alternatives.

My Role and Capacity Displayed

1. Leadership and Team Collaboration

  • I actively collaborated with a diverse group of participants to conceptualize and design the Ecofriendly Supermarket project.
  • I led the team presentation, showcasing the project's vision, objectives, and action plan.

2. Strategic Thinking and Innovation

  • During brainstorming sessions, I identified key environmental issues and proposed actionable solutions tailored to community needs.
  • I ensured the project's alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production).
