🌟 Reflecting on My Role in the National Vitamin A+ Campaign 2017 🌟
In 2017, I had the honor of participating in the National Vitamin A+ Campaign, an initiative aimed at improving child health across Bangladesh. This event, organized with the support of the Dhaka University Rover Scout Group (DURSG), allowed me to contribute meaningfully by working directly with children and ensuring their access to essential healthcare services.
The National Vitamin A+ Campaign is a government-led health initiative carried out twice a year to reduce child mortality and morbidity by addressing vitamin A deficiency, a common yet preventable health issue in Bangladesh. Vitamin A plays a crucial role in boosting immunity, improving vision, and ensuring proper growth in children.
My Role in the Campaign
As a member of the Rover Scout team, I actively participated in various activities throughout the campaign. These included:
Assisting in Vitamin A Supplement Distribution
I helped distribute Vitamin A capsules to children aged 6 to 59 months, ensuring that every child present received their dose. The distribution process required careful attention to safety protocols and accurate record-keeping.Educating Parents and Guardians
Many parents were unaware of the importance of Vitamin A supplementation and its benefits. I provided them with essential information about the campaign's objectives, the role of Vitamin A in child health, and how they could further support their children’s well-being.Engaging with Children
One of the most fulfilling aspects of the day was interacting with the children. We used playful techniques to make them feel comfortable and ensure they understood the importance of taking their supplements. Seeing their smiles after receiving the capsules made the hard work worthwhile.
Why the Campaign Matters
The National Vitamin A+ Campaign has been instrumental in reducing malnutrition and childhood blindness caused by Vitamin A deficiency in Bangladesh. According to UNICEF and the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), this campaign reaches millions of children across the country, playing a critical role in improving child health and saving lives.
A Memorable Experience
Participating in this campaign was a profoundly rewarding experience. It was a long day filled with challenges, yet it brought immense satisfaction. Working with children taught me the value of patience, compassion, and teamwork. It was heartwarming to witness the collective efforts of volunteers, healthcare workers, and community members coming together for a noble cause.
I extend my gratitude to the Dhaka University Rover Scout Group (DURSG) for giving me the opportunity to be part of such a meaningful initiative. Their leadership and organization were vital to the success of the campaign.
The Spirit of Rovering
This event embodied the true spirit of Rover Scouting—serving the community and making a tangible difference in people's lives. It reinforced my commitment to promoting health, education, and well-being in the communities I serve.
I look forward to participating in similar initiatives in the future, contributing to healthier, happier lives for children.
