First International Publication: "Celebrate World Heritage Day 2020"
My article was first published in an international magazine called "Envoy", a joint bulletin spearheaded by the Rotaract Club of Pune Pashan in collaboration with the Rotaract Club of Rajdhani and 10 other Rotaract clubs from eight countries. This special edition was released in April 2020 to commemorate World Heritage Day and aimed to celebrate and spotlight renowned cultural heritages worldwide.
Collaborative Effort: A Global Perspective
The magazine reflected the collective effort of youth from diverse cultural backgrounds. With contributions from multiple Rotaract clubs across eight countries, "Envoy" emerged as a testament to the spirit of global unity and the shared commitment to preserving and promoting cultural heritage.
Each article in the bulletin highlighted iconic landmarks, historical structures, and cultural traditions of the contributors' respective countries. This initiative symbolized the theme of "Linking Cultures, Connecting the World", fostering cross-cultural understanding and appreciation.
Spotlight on Lalbagh Fort
My article in "Envoy" focused on Lalbagh Fort, a renowned heritage site of Bangladesh. It was an opportunity to showcase the historical significance and architectural splendor of this 17th-century Mughal fort located in Dhaka.
Key Highlights of the Article:
Historical Background:
- Lalbagh Fort, an incomplete Mughal-era construction, was commissioned by Prince Muhammad Azam, the son of Emperor Aurangzeb, in 1678.
- The fort was initially intended to be a grand palace and fort complex but remained incomplete after Azam left for Delhi and the sudden death of Bibi Pari, Azam's daughter.
Architectural Marvel:
- The fort's stunning design reflects the Mughal style, with intricate detailing, domes, and symmetrical layouts.
- Key structures include the Diwan-i-Aam, Bibi Pari’s Tomb, and the mosque.
Cultural Significance:
- Lalbagh Fort is a symbol of Bangladesh's rich history and is a prominent tourist attraction.
- It serves as a reminder of the Mughal Empire’s influence in the region and the unfulfilled dreams behind its incomplete structure.
Challenges in Preservation:
- The article also touched upon the challenges of conserving this iconic site, including urbanization, pollution, and the need for robust preservation policies.
By writing about Lalbagh Fort, I aimed to promote Bangladesh’s cultural legacy on a global platform and inspire readers to appreciate the importance of safeguarding historical landmarks.
Reflections on the Experience
Being part of this international initiative was a milestone in my writing journey. It allowed me to share a piece of Bangladesh’s history with a global audience while connecting with like-minded individuals passionate about cultural heritage.
The opportunity to contribute to "Envoy", alongside Rotaractors from various countries, reinforced my belief in the power of collaboration to create meaningful and impactful work. This publication not only showcased my writing skills but also strengthened my commitment to preserving and promoting heritage through storytelling.
Conclusion
The joint bulletin "Envoy", published by eight countries, symbolized the unity and cultural exchange that Rotaract fosters worldwide. Contributing an article about Lalbagh Fort to this international platform was an honor and a responsibility to represent Bangladesh’s rich heritage. This experience continues to inspire me to explore, document, and share stories of historical and cultural significance with diverse audiences.
