Driving Change in Our Communities: Training Peer Leaders on TIP and Safe Migration
Date: September 25, 2024
Location: Technical Training Center, Tangail
I had the privilege of leading a transformative Training Session on Trafficking in Persons (TIP) and Safe Migration, attended by 36 passionate Peer Leaders from Tangail Sadar, Kalihati, and Mirzapur. Among the participants were 16 men and 20 women, all dedicated to creating positive change in their communities.
As the Monitoring Officer for OKUP, my primary focus during the session was to equip these community advocates with the tools and knowledge to address critical issues such as human trafficking, child marriage prevention, and safe migration practices.
Key Highlights of the Training:
- Understanding TIP and Safe Migration: Participants explored real-world scenarios to identify risks and solutions for promoting informed decision-making about migration.
- Role of Peer Leaders: We emphasized the critical role of Peer Leaders in identifying vulnerable individuals, raising awareness, and offering support services within their communities.
- Child Marriage Prevention: Discussions addressed the intersection of child marriage and human trafficking, with strategies for intervention and advocacy.
- Collaborative Exercises: Interactive group activities fostered teamwork and innovative approaches to tackling trafficking and migration-related challenges.
- Resource Sharing: Participants were provided with updated materials, including guidelines and referral directories, to strengthen their advocacy efforts.
The energy and commitment displayed by the Peer Leaders were truly inspiring. Their enthusiasm for learning and their proactive participation underscored the significant impact they are making in their respective communities. By empowering these leaders, we are fostering safer, more resilient environments where individuals can thrive without fear of exploitation.
Acknowledgments: I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all participants for their active engagement and dedication, as well as to the organizers and partners who made this impactful training possible. Together, we are building a future where every individual can live with dignity and security.
