About RYLA – A Global Leadership Development Initiative

The Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is one of the most prestigious leadership programs organized by Rotary International, designed to empower young leaders with essential leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. This intensive leadership experience allows participants to engage in workshops, interactive discussions, and networking opportunities with distinguished mentors and fellow young professionals from diverse backgrounds.

The 2020 International Virtual RYLA, hosted by Rotary International District 3250, was a transformative experience that reinforced my passion for leadership, personal growth, and service to the community. The program was unique as it brought together aspiring leaders from different countries in a virtual space to share experiences, learn from experts, and cultivate a vision for impactful leadership.

My Role & Experience as a Participant

Attending the International Virtual RYLA was a crucial milestone in my leadership journey. As a Rotaractor and a dedicated youth leader, I sought to strengthen my leadership philosophy through strategic learning, self-reflection, and collaborative discussions. The program covered various aspects of leadership and service, equipping participants with tools to become effective changemakers in their communities.

1. Leadership Development Sessions

  • The workshops focused on self-awareness, strategic decision-making, resilience, and emotional intelligence—all vital elements of an effective leader.
  • Distinguished Rotary leaders and guest speakers provided insights into ethical leadership, team-building, and public speaking.
  • We explored problem-solving methodologies, learning how to analyze challenges, develop solutions, and lead teams with confidence.

2. Interactive Panel Discussions & Networking

  • The event included panel discussions with experienced Rotarians, leadership coaches, and social entrepreneurs.
  • I had the opportunity to interact with global peers—fellow Rotaractors, Interactors, and young professionals—who shared their experiences in community service, humanitarian initiatives, and professional growth.
  • Discussions revolved around adapting to challenges in the digital era, leading through uncertainty, and leveraging technology for impactful leadership.

3. Personal Growth & Public Speaking Enhancement

  • One of the key takeaways from RYLA was enhancing communication and presentation skills.
  • We participated in group exercises and leadership challenges that encouraged collaborative problem-solving and adaptability.
  • Public speaking workshops helped refine persuasive communication, storytelling, and audience engagement skills.

4. Social Impact & Community Service Vision

I am grateful to Rotary International District 3250 and the host clubs (Rotary Club of Patna Midtown & Rotary Club of Jamshedpur West) for organizing such an enriching program.
