Participated in Roundtable Discussion on Labor Migration Reform in Bangladesh

🌍 Reflecting on the Roundtable Discussion on Labor Migration Reform in Bangladesh

I had the privilege of participating in the Roundtable Discussion on the Reform Agenda in Labor Migration for Bangladesh, hosted by the ILO Country Office at InterContinental Dhaka on December 15, 2024. This impactful event brought together policymakers, experts, development partners, UN agencies, and civil society organizations to engage in a critical dialogue on reshaping the labor migration system in Bangladesh.

✅Key issues were explored, including high migration costs, non-transparent recruitment processes, gender-specific challenges, and the inefficiencies in existing systems like the Probashi Kallyan Bank (PKB). Notable contributors, such as Dr. Tasneem Arefa Siddiqui, Dr. Khondaker Golam Moazzem, Asif Munir, and Shariful Islam Hasan, highlighted the urgent need for systemic reforms, inter-ministerial coordination, and gender inclusivity to empower migrants effectively.

OKUP also shared insights and recommendations to enhance the migration journey.
The commitment from the Chief of the Labor Reform Commission to finalize a comprehensive reform paper is a beacon of hope for the future of labor migration in Bangladesh.

This event reaffirmed the collective responsibility we hold in ensuring the rights and welfare of migrant workers. Together, we can pave the way for a more equitable and efficient migration system.
