Overview of the Training Session

For the fourth time, I had the privilege of conducting a training session to empower emerging leaders within the Bangladesh Tarun Column Lekhok Forum (BTCLF), Dhaka University Unit. This session, titled "Leadership: Qualities and Practical Skills," focused on developing essential leadership traits and practical skills needed to lead teams, make informed decisions, and inspire change.

The workshop was specifically designed for the Central Committee and 18 Unit leaders of BTCLF, ensuring that young leaders from various backgrounds gained insights into effective leadership strategies and real-world applications.

Key Objectives of the Training

Understanding Leadership Fundamentals – Exploring what makes a great leader and how leadership differs from traditional management.
Developing Key Leadership Qualities – Building confidence, emotional intelligence, and decision-making abilities.
Practical Leadership Skills – Learning effective communication, conflict resolution, time management, and teamwork.
Transforming Vision into Action – How to set goals, motivate teams, and create impact-driven initiatives.

Training Highlights & Session Breakdown

1️⃣ Defining Leadership: What Makes a True Leader?

  • Discussion on the difference between leadership and authority.
  • Real-life examples of global and local leaders and their leadership styles.
  • How to develop a personal leadership philosophy aligned with values and ethics.

2️⃣ Core Leadership Qualities: The Traits of Effective Leaders

  • Emotional Intelligence (EQ): How self-awareness and empathy enhance leadership.
  • Resilience & Adaptability: Overcoming challenges and leading through uncertainty.
  • Decision-Making Skills: Practical techniques to make quick, informed, and ethical decisions.

3️⃣ Practical Leadership Skills: How to Lead with Impact

  • Effective Communication Strategies: How to influence, inspire, and engage teams.
  • Conflict Resolution: Strategies for handling disputes and maintaining a healthy team environment.

  • Role-playing activities to enhance decision-making and teamwork.
  • Analyzing real-world leadership scenarios and discussing possible approaches.
  • Q&A Session: Participants shared challenges they face in leadership roles, and I provided customized guidance and solutions.

My Role & Contributions as a Trainer

As the lead trainer, my responsibilities included:
Designing a structured curriculum that was both theoretical and practical.
Delivering engaging, interactive content tailored to young leaders.
Facilitating discussions, role-playing, and case study analysis to ensure maximum learning retention.
Providing mentorship and real-life applications of leadership skills to participants.
Ensuring active participation by creating a dynamic and engaging virtual learning environment.

Challenges & Learning Outcomes

📌 Virtual Training Adaptation: Conducting leadership training in an online setting required creative engagement strategies to keep participants motivated and involved.
📌 Diverse Group Engagement: With participants from different backgrounds and leadership levels, I had to customize examples and exercises to ensure relevance for all.
📌 Balancing Theory & Practice: Focusing on real-world applications helped bridge the gap between leadership concepts and actual implementation.

Impact & Feedback from Participants

Participants reported increased confidence in their leadership abilities.
✔ The session helped them identify their leadership strengths and areas for improvement.
✔ Many expressed interest in further mentorship opportunities and follow-up training to enhance their leadership journey.
✔ The training strengthened the BTCLF network by encouraging collaboration and shared learning among units.

Final Reflections & Future Goals

This training was a milestone in my leadership development journey, reaffirming my passion for empowering young leaders with practical skills and strategic thinking.

I am grateful to Kaji Jahirul Islam (Training Secretary, BTCLF), Zahanur Islam (Central President), and Akhtar Hossain Azad (Central Secretary) for their efforts in organizing this workshop and inviting me to contribute.
